Aridity drives the loss of dung beetle taxonomic and functional diversity in three contrasting deserts

چکیده

Aim Aridity gradients are of great interest for understanding the responses biodiversity to water availability and stress. However, little is known about many animal groups, which crucial assessing effects climate change. Here, we study aridity on dung beetle communities, a group with well-known large-scale environmental gradients. Location Sahara, Kalahari Chihuahuan deserts. Taxa Dung beetles family Scarabaeidae. Methods We conducted standardized surveys along approximately 400 km in each three deserts, measured species richness, abundance, evenness aspects trait-based functional diversity (functional dispersion). By using randomization tests linear mixed models, compared observed expected values indices from null models that hierarchically incorporate additional assembly constraints. Results Overall, found decrease both taxonomic richness dispersion Also, seems have mild evenness. Besides these general trends, identified differences between deserts diversity. Main conclusions shows greater importance than competition other processes limiting similarity or stochastic community assembly. hypervolume desert communities decreases not only due loss, but also because selection few distinct phenotypes under harsh conditions. Last, different regional pools respond ways. Therefore, future progressive driven by change requires determining how characteristics pool interact aridity-driven processes.

the effect of functional/notional approach on the proficiency level of efl learners and its evaluation through functional test

in fact, this study focused on the following questions: 1. is there any difference between the effect of functional/notional approach and the structural approaches to language teaching on the proficiency test of efl learners? 2. can a rather innovative language test referred to as "functional test" ge devised so so to measure the proficiency test of efl learners, and thus be as much reliable an...

a comparative study of the theme of "marriage" in three victorian novelists: charles dickens, george eliot and thomas hardy

Scale-Dependence of Processes Structuring Dung Beetle Metacommunities Using Functional Diversity and Community Deconstruction Approaches

Community structure is driven by mechanisms linked to environmental, spatial and temporal processes, which have been successfully addressed using metacommunity framework. The relative importance of processes shaping community structure can be identified using several different approaches. Two approaches that are increasingly being used are functional diversity and community deconstruction. Func...

Dung Beetles along a Tropical Altitudinal Gradient: Environmental Filtering on Taxonomic and Functional Diversity

Mountains provide an interesting context in which to study the many facets of biodiversity in response to macroclimate, since environmental conditions change rapidly due to elevation. Although the decrease in biodiversity with increasing elevation is generally accepted, our understanding of the variation of functional diversity along altitudinal gradients is still poorly known. The partitioning...
